If you're trying to stretch the last few bucks you've got before the next pay check I've got the place for you: Jack's 99 Cent StoreJack's is the Rolls Royce of 99 Cent Stores and the flagship store on 32nd & 6th Avenue is mind-blowing. You can pretty much get anything here food, clothing, make-up, linens.. you name it!
The 1st Floor EVERYTHING is 99 cents, 2nd floor is low cost housewares (everything under $20), and the 3rd floor is low-cost appliances and electronics. Shop regularly because the stock changes daily.
Also here's one of the best articles I've read in the New York Times about a guy living only on food from Jack's for a week. It's totally do-able.
