Hi Emco,
Maybe you know about this already but Meetup.com has over 1000 different interest groups that offer low cost get togethers in NYC and else where. One that I organise events for is called the "New York Metro Ice Skating" group and we get a discount at the City Ice Pavilion on their Saturday night session.
