Afterwards, DJ Spinna will be spinning all things Jackson, from the Jackson 5 to the Jacksons to Michael Jackson. “At the end, we’ll all sing Happy Birthday to Michael,” Lee says. “We’re going to make sure he hears us, too. All over the world, people are going to be celebrating his birthday. But he’s going to hear Brooklyn; Brooklyn is going to be in the house. Deep.” All ages.

Let Me Roll It...FREE Flip Camera & Ticket to See Paul McCartney!

Paul McCartney is currently playing three nights at Citi Field. Luckily I've seen Macca before so I'm not too bummed about not having a ticket, but I do wish I'd heard about THIS opportunity sooner.

Apparently Paul's making a film and he needs some help from all of
you young filmmakers out there. They are looking for thirty people to shoot each show, July 17, 18 & 21, on Flip cameras. They provide the cameras, all they need is the talent! The first 90 people to email will get to shoot one of the shows. Please send your name, email and mailing address to mccartneyflipcam@gmail.com to enter! I wrote in, so we shall see. Paul also played an amazing rooftop show this week in NYC at the Ed Sullivan Theater that I also missed. FAIL.

Free Concert Frenzy! Siren Festival & Summerstage 7/18

Coney Island
VS Central Park

Spank Rock VS QTip
Siren Festival VS SummerStage

Decisions, Decisions....I don't know which one I'll pick but both are gonna rock your world.

9th Annual Siren Festival
Saturday, July 18th
Noon-9pm
FREE
Coney Island, NYC

Set against the backdrop of Coney Island, this free, all ages, all day music festival showcases renowned and emerging artists on two outdoor stages. Featuring a killer lineup this show will not dissapoint: BUILT TO SPILL, SPANK ROCK, THE RAVEONETTES, FRIGHTENED RABBIT, A PLACE TO BURY STRANGERS, GRAND DUCHY, MONOTONIX, THEE OH SEES, FUTURE OF THE LEFT, JAPANDROIDS, MICACHU & THE SHAPES, TINY MASTERS OF TODAY, BEAR HANDS, THE BLUE VAN, JUSTINE D, DEADHEAT DJS

But on the other hand spending a Saturday in Sheeps Meadow with some tunes and a nice breeze sounds pretty amazing.

Central Park SummerStage
Saturday, July 18th
3-9pm
FREE
Central Park SummerStage
69th St @ 5th Ave

SummerStage's lineup tomorrow includes the legendary QTip, Chester French, Little Dragon & Benji B.

Either way you go, there's a few things to keep in mind........

-Both shows will be crazy busy. SummerStage, doors open at 2pm but I'd get there earlier and get in line, because once the stage area is at capacity they stop letting people in and you're relegated to stand on some rocks outside the fence.

- Coney Island is far away!! About 45min-1hr, but on the day of the festival trains will be busy and slow. Don't forget to plan for this and bring cash for Coney, all the palm readers, hot dog stands and rollercoasters take strictly cash and the ATM fees there are pretty astronomical.

- And finally wear Sunscreen so you don't end up leaving the par
k or the island looking like a lobster!

Here's some directions & FAQs for SummerStage & Siren Festival.

Have fun! xoxo

Tech it out! Handmade Music Night at 3rd Ward, 7/16

So this month's handmade music extravaganza is special because it features the work of some of my fellow ITPers! The handmade party returns this Thursday with a science-fair-style showcase of new creations in music making.

Along with free PBR while it lasts, 3rd Ward will showcase the latest high-tech inventions for musicians, complete with demos, an open lab to meet the creators, and live musical performances...Believe me, you won't want to miss this.

Sequence everything: CRUDBOX / STEVEN LITT

The CrudBox is an original hardware step sequencer in a briefcase, which plugs into and sequences everything from cassette decks to power tools and turns them into musical patterns.

Looping hardware: LOOOP-R / RUI PEREIRA

Looop-R is a musical, visual, hardware, software instrument.

Shake the beats: EGGBEATER / TED HAYES

This wireless, egg-shaped controller lets you mash loops, control filters, and play music using live gestures.

Ableton hacking: AKAI APC40, HACKED / MICHAEL HATSIS

Live laptop fans, take note: the commercially-available Akai APC40 Ableton Live controller warped to make new musical performances possible.
