Glazed & Confused-How to Make Your Manicure Last

Ladies, for an easy and low-cost way to feel more fabulous in a snap, treat yourself to a manicure from your local salon. Here in NYC there is an abundance of options for great nails on almost every corner. For me, I have my no-fuss/affordable shop in Murray Hill, Romie's ($8/manicure) and for nights that I want something hot and extra special I hit up my girls at Valley.
The biggest problem I have with manis/pedis is the fact that they don't last very long before the paint chips and considering the time & money spent in the salon, I want my color to stay. Recently I found a way around this issue by just slapping on some clear Top Coat daily on your pretty digits. It's affordable, ranging between $1-$4 a bottle and it can prevent chips and help lengthen the time between appointments from 1-3 weeks.
Top Coat can not only help increase the life of your manicure, but I also learned that in addition to stopping runs in your stockings, this clear polish can also help keep your buttons from unraveling. Totally Flaming-Play With Fire Video & Interactive Art Festival, Today!

Celebrate the Guggenheim's 50th Birthday with FREE Admission- October 21, 2009

To celebrate the 50th birthday of the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum's Frank Lloyd Wright–designed building, the museum will extend free admission to the public on Wednesday, October 21st from 10am to 5:45 pm. Throughout the day, visitors will enjoy special celebration activities, access to current exhibits, free Guggenheim Cookies (at 3:00pm while supplies last), Green Bag Giveaway for the first 50 people and a free raffle for all museum visitors with goodies from the museum store.

Grad School Musical ITPalooza Concerts 9/9-9/11!

The Interactive Telecommunications Program at NYU, which was recently deemed "The Center for the Recently Possible" has some of the coolest and talented people on the planet so it's no surprise these geniuses have whipped up a music festival to kick off the beginning of the school year.

Each night will feature an amazing lineup of past and present ITP musicians and visualists, so come out and see old friends, make new ones, and be blown away by the diversity and talent.

ITPalooza kicks off early on Wednesday 9/9, with a 6:30 happy hour with $2 beers and glasses of wine. Music starts at 7:30pm. Thursday & Friday, the shows will start at 9pm. The shows aren't free, but they are dirt cheap, just 5 or 10 bucks and totally worth it.

Today, thousands are expected to fill the Nethermead meadow in the center of Prospect Park to celebrate Mr. Jackson’s life on what would have been his 51st birthday.

The event, organized by Spike Lee, will feature Borough President Marty Markowitz on hand to proclaim the date "Michael Jackson Day." Afterwards, DJ Spinna will be spinning all things Jackson, from the Jackson 5 to the Jacksons to Michael Jackson. “At the end, we’ll all sing Happy Birthday to Michael,” Lee says. “We’re going to make sure he hears us, too. Twilight Zone-Central Park Film Festival-Free Screening 8/21

When you can live forever what do you live for? Seeing Twilight in Central Park of course! This Friday, August 21st the Central Park Film Festival hosts a screening of the film at 8pm.
It's all part of the Central Park Film Festival Series which is happening this week.

When: 8/18- 8/22
Gates open at 6:00 pm, films start at 8:00 pm.
Cost: Free
Where: Rumsey Playfield, (enter the Park at Fifth Avenue and 69th Street)
Other screenings include Oceans 11 (tonight 8/20) and Viewer's Choice (8/22)

Definitely get there early and bring your blanket to reserve a spot for this one!

Say My Name-Name Night-Drink For Free in Manhattan

One of my favorite deals in the city has always been "name night" at a few choice bars in Manhattan. Every night of the month they pick a different name. If yours is selected, you drink for free. They post it on a calendar monthly so you can gather up your peeps for a celebration....of your name.

This is the first month I've seen my name chosen at BOTH bars and so I'm super excited to indulge in the coming days. The one request the bars have is that you come with a crowd, no lonely alcoholics please and definitely tip the gracious bartenders.
