NIME: New Interfaces for Musical Expression
Creating new performance tools for digital music.

It's that time again for the eighth annual NIME concert, where performers play a series of newly designed electronic instruments that aim to keep the “live” in the live performance of digital music.

This year's NIME concert will feature such innovations as a musically enhanced sewing machine, sonified floor tiles, performative knitting needles, turntablism for live instrumentalists, electronically controlled cartoon antics, novel realizations of the rock guitar, and a host of other exciting approaches to the creation of music.

Flick Tease!! Free Screening of I Remember Andrea, Nov. 19

Andrea Wachner really did not want to go to her ten-year high school reunion. So she hired a Stripper named Cricket to go instead.. Sounds like the beginnings of a hilarious short film/documentary. "I Remember Andrea" has it's East Coast premiere tomorrow night at Cantor Film Center and admission is FREE!

Sit Down for Stand-Up! Free Comedy Central Show hosted by John Oliver 10/23-10/25

stand-up comedian and Daily Show correspondent, John Oliver, hosts 3 nights of stand-up comedy that feature some of the hottest stand-up stars and great upcoming comics. I attended a Comedy Central taping last year and had such a great time, this is not to be missed.

Grad School Musical ITPalooza Concerts 9/9-9/11!

The Interactive Telecommunications Program at NYU, which was recently deemed "The Center for the Recently Possible" has some of the coolest and talented people on the planet so it's no surprise these geniuses have whipped up a music festival to kick off the beginning of the school year.

Each night will feature an amazing lineup of past and present ITP musicians and visualists, so come out and see old friends, make new ones, and be blown away by the diversity and talent.

ITPalooza kicks off early on Wednesday 9/9, with a 6:30 happy hour with $2 beers and glasses of wine. Music starts at 7:30pm. Thursday & Friday, the shows will start at 9pm. The shows aren't free, but they are dirt cheap, just 5 or 10 bucks and totally worth it.

Meet French highwire artist, Philippe Petit, who accomplished the impossible in 1974 when he navigated a single wire between the twin towers of the World Trade Center. Through interviews, re-creations, archival footage, and haunting images of the now-gone towers, this stunning documentary (Dir. James Marsh) offers a provocative look at a man driven to achieve the impossible. In addition to an Oscar, MAN ON WIRE won Producers' Guild, Sundance and BAFTA awards.
